Anita Odessa

Anita is a corporate-commercial, technology and intellectual property lawyer representing a diverse group of clients over a wide range of industries.

Anita has substantial expertise in drafting, negotiating, structuring, and advising on a wide variety of complex software, hardware and other technology arrangements including licensing, maintenance and support, outsourcing, and consulting agreements.

Anita’s practice has an emphasis on providing clients with strategic advice regarding electronic commerce, document retention and information security matters, as well as other legal issues arising in the fields of technology, health informatics, life sciences and the arts. She is regularly involved in strategic acquisitions, reorganizations, joint ventures and procurement processes both in and out of the technology sector.

Previously, as a Partner at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP, Anita focused on technology and intellectual property law matters. Anita is the co-author of E-Commerce Law: Corporate-commercial Aspects, a book that has been described by the Canadian Legal LEXPERT Directory as an important work in the area of computer and IT law, as well as a contributing author on IT security compliance in Outsourcing Transactions: A Practical Guide. She has served as a Director of the Canadian IT Law Association, the Toronto Computer Lawyers’ Group and the Ontario Cancer Research Ethics Board and spoken nationally and internationally on topics relating to information technology and bioethics.

An innovator and entrepreneur in her own right, Anita is the inventor of a patented breastfeeding garment system that she has incorporated into and commercialized as her own collection of upscale nursingwear.
