Legal Superpowers:

Sonny is a corporate/commercial and transactions lawyer with significant experience in the financial services and capital markets sectors. He practiced at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP for 14 years (12 of those as a partner), where he acted on a broad range of corporate matters including bank and project financings, equity and debt financings, private equity transactions, reorganizations, formation matters (shareholder, partnership and management agreements) and private company acquisitions and divestitures.

He has extensive experience advising lenders, borrowers, issuers, developers and sponsors in connection with senior, mezzanine and property level loans and other financings and investments across a wide spectrum of industries, including renewable energy and P3 infrastructure areas.

Sonny also advises in-house counsel and boards on governance measures. He is a practical, results-oriented advisor on legal and risk management issues.

Alter Ego:

Sonny enjoys finding interesting foods and restaurants in the city and when he’s travelling. He would like to have Anthony Bourdain’s job and T.V. Show, but that may not be possible due to his dismal culinary skills. He is an avid runner and regularly runs 10k (not in the winter!). Sonny played cricket for the Junior B.C and Canadian teams. Although he hasn’t played since he started practicing law, he has every intention to get back into it.

Education:

J.D., University of Victoria (1999)

B.Comm. (with Distinction), University of Victoria (1996)
